Chris Maurice, the chief executive officer of the African crypto platform Yellow Card, has recently spoken on his earlier endeavours in the crypto space. Chris says that he started to sell the leading Cryptocurrency at numerous Taco Bells working with his friend Justin Poiroux, the man who later co-founded the exchange with him.
Speaking in an interview with Cointelegraph, Chris said:
"We would post on Craigslist and on LocalBitcoins, and we would say, 'Hey we have Bitcoin, come meet up with us and give us cash and we'll give you the Bitcoin.’”
After using the Internet to their advantage, the two decided to use Taco Bell as a good meeting place for their bitcoin sale transactions as he went on to say:
"Every Wednesday at about 7 p.m. you could come to the Taco Bell on Gay Street in Auburn Alabama. You could find Justin and I in the back corner table eating our Doritos Locos Taco 12-pack and you could slap a couple hundred dollars cash on the table and we would scan your QR code and give you Bitcoin."
After making a lot of money from this endeavour, two weeks later the pair expanded their operation and recruited friends from colleges such as Yale and Georgia to help them make as much money as possible. They said that in less than a month, they had seven Taco Bells in the eastern United States where you could walk in and buy the leading cryptocurrency.
It turns out that they ended up running this operation for about two months and then the pair decided to do something a little less dodgy with their lives. From here, they decided to start up the Yellow Card. platform.
An interesting way to take advantage of a nascent industry.
