Presidential candidate Brock Pierce has recently said that he doesn’t believe that he will win the 2020 election but does say that he plans to end up in the White House anyway. The crypto venture capitalist and independent candidate for the presidency has said that one of his main moves in his campaign will be to ensure that neither the Republican or Democratic party win a majority this year. This will be by gaming the electoral college system.

He further said:

“If a third party such as myself were to win a single state, it becomes possible that no one wins the election. If a third party such as again, ourselves, were to win three states, it becomes likely that no one wins the election. So I'm not trying to win the election. I'm trying to win three states so that no one wins the election.”

For those who are unaware of how American politics works, presidential candidates must win at least 270 electoral votes out of 538 in order to be elected. Less populated states such as Wyoming can carry three votes whereas bigger ones such as California can carry up to 55 votes.

A candidate can carry a whole state and an electoral vote, winning most votes in a specific state, this is exactly how Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016 despite receiving around 3 million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton, his rival at the time.

However, if neither a major party candidate was to get a majority of the electoral votes, state delegations in the house of representatives would suit the three presidential candidates with the most votes. This would mean that if the strategy was effective, this would include Trump, Biden and Pierce.

The crypto enthusiast said that you don’t need to win in order to become president.

“I’m running with a strategy to end up in the White House in January.”
