A 16-year-old Syrian refugee in Iraq’s Arbat refugee camp, Yousif Mohammed Nor Aldeen has been teaching other people about the ins and outs of cryptocurrency and blockchain.

“I want to solve a problem in my community. We have a lot of problems, like corruption,” Aldeen said. “People really need to know all the things about the internet and their phones and laptops. We are in an advanced world and we should learn."

Hailing from Damascus, Yousif is specifically a fan of the idea all the refugees in the camp could earn and send money via their social networks back home to their families. Borders have failed them in recent years so maybe cryptocurrency could be the best option for them.

As per CoinDesk, the 16-year-old is the owner of a small amount of Ethereum, which he earned through a local education program run by the nonprofit Hello Future. Given that he only has a little amount, which is too small to spend, he is excited to start earning more. Charlie Grosso, the founder of Hello Future said she gave ETH as payment because it was less expensive than the leading cryptocurrency

Most of the students in Yousif’s class see mobile devices and computers in a similar light to old-school Nintendo consoles according to Grosso. They know they can play games, but don’t understand the full capability that these new technologies can actually bring to the table.

“The idea of searching to verify information is unknown to them. They just don’t have that framework.”

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
