Crypto ATMs recorded a shocking decline in 2023, with over 5,700 automated teller machines decommissioned. The total number of crypto ATMs dropped from 39,350 to 33,620 across 71 countries.
2023 witnessed a considerable decline in the number of crypto ATMs. Over the year, more than 5,700 ATMs were decommissioned, representing a 14.56% decline from 39,350 to 33,620.
14.56% Decline in Crypto ATMs Since December 2022
According to data from coinatmradar.com, over 5,700 crypto ATMs were decommissioned in 2023. Data revealed 39,350 crypto ATMs in December 2022, but only 33,620 as of December 30, 2023.
2023’s decline represents the first decline in ATM installations since October 2013.

The United States leads with the number of crypto ATMs, accounting for 82.2% of total crypto ATMs. ATMs can be found in 27,985 locations across the US. Canada ranks second with crypto ATMs in 2,897 locations or 8.4%.
According to Coin ATM Radar’s data, 1,523 devices were removed in January 2023, 210 ATMs were removed in February, and 3,555 devices were decommissioned in March 2023. May and June 2023 were the only months during the year that saw ATMs added, with 1,711 and 857 machines installed, respectively. Following May and June’s additions, the highest number of decommissioned ATMs was recorded in July, seeing 4,218 machines eliminated.

Ten Operators Run 67% of Crypto ATMs
Bitcoin Depot is the leading crypto operator with 6,311 ATMs, followed by Coinflip with 3,880 ATMs. Bitstop operates 2,854 ATMs, and Rockitcoin oversees 2,227 machines.
