The top rugby league in Australia, the national rugby league (NRL) will be trialling blockchain-based applications with IP Australia in order to avoid the sale of counterfeit products. For those that don’t know, IP Australia is an agency of the Department of industry, innovation and science which works and regulates the issuance of intellectual property rights and legislation relating to patents and trademarks.
According to a local report, the new application will use blockchain to enable trademark owners to link their products to the government to register. From here, it will act as a proof of their products authenticity as well as the origin. Furthermore, it will help and keep control of the use of the mark.
The rugby league will link two all its online merchandise shops with the platform and as they do this, it will attach a trust badge to each of the websites. This will mean that they will have a visual proof for their customers that the website has been verified by IP Australia. If the customer was to click on the trust badge, they will be able to see the information in regards to the trademark.
The Minister for industry, science and technology, Karen Andrews has said that they can use the application in order to prevent the counterfeiting of products that were made in the country. She said that it is a great example of how new technologies can be applied in very practical ways in helping the economy grow and creating jobs in the local area.
It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
