A new partnership has been inked between Oracle and Vottun, a company that specialises in the certification and traceability of information based on the blockchain. This new partnership is going to help release a digital health passport which could enable employees currently on lockdown to go back into the workplace.

What has been called an immunity passport, the digital credential system created by the traceability company records your immunity status on the blockchain which can be checked with ease.

The chief executive officer of the company, Rohan Hall has said that the passport in question can be verified at any time using cryptography by any mobile phone that is able to read a QR code. All the credentials and information will be securely stored on the system as simple as using a mobile boarding pass as you go on a plane.

As it is currently being tested in Spain, the technology is in conjunction with PWC. Over in the United States, the company has reported that it has already had conversations with the director of the National Institute of allergy and infectious diseases. Whereas the concept itself has been received as a controversy, some are likening the amenity certificates to German soldiers who are demanding papers. Looking over in Asia to China, many others wondered how else the data could be used.

With people across the world self isolating at home to avoid potentially contracting or spreading the virus, things like the immunity passport could come in handy. Many companies I’ve had to close doors due to the pandemic hoping that they can open once the situation dies down.

Rohan has said that the combination between the two provides a good way for governments to reopen the economy. He further said:

“Until individuals’ status can be easily verified it will be difficult to open up our economy for business again. Since we do not know when there will be a cure we will need practical and trusted solutions like our Immunity Passports to navigate society with some sense of trust and confidence. Vottun's Passports and our contact tracing will open the doors again to as normal a life as possible in such difficult times.”
