Worldcoin’s upgraded World ID feature will now allow users to verify their humanity on a multitude of platforms like Microsoft, Reddit, Telegram, Shopify, and others.

World ID 2.0 Enhances Human Verification

The Worldcoin team has announced an upgrade to the World ID feature with a blog post on the website. The new version, dubbed the World ID 2.0, has already been integrated into leading platforms like Shopify, Mercado Libre, Reddit, Minecraft, and Telegram, where users will now be able to verify their humanity.

In a statement, Worldcoin said,

"With the humanness digital passport, individuals can verify to an app or service that they are human without disclosing their identity, and brands can ensure that their offerings and services are being used as intended.”

New Levels of Authentication

The cornerstone of World ID 2.0 lies in its three new authentication levels: lite, standard, and max. These levels provide developers with the flexibility to tailor the verification process according to the security needs of their applications. By offering a spectrum of options, Worldcoin ensures that users only share the essential information required by each platform.

The diverse authentication levels cater to a variety of security demands. Applications focusing on maximum security might opt for an orb-verified ID, while those emphasizing convenience could settle for a "Device Auth" World ID linked to the user's mobile phone. This adaptability underscores Worldcoin's commitment to aligning with the specific needs of each application.

Enhanced Features And Expanded Reach

In addition to the new authentication levels, the World ID 2.0 introduces core upgrades to bolster its user-friendly approach. Notably, users can now return to an Orb to reset their World ID if it ever gets lost. This feature adds an extra layer of convenience, ensuring users maintain control over their digital identity.

The World ID feature, introduced in July, already had integrations with platforms like Discord, Talent Protocol, and Okta's Auth0. However, the recent additions of Shopify, Mercado Libre, Reddit, Minecraft, and Telegram expanded the reach of World ID, creating a more comprehensive user verification system.

Fighting Bots Amid Privacy Concerns

Worldcoin's highest-security authentication level, involving iris scanning and generating a zero-knowledge proof, has stirred controversy. Critics express concerns about potential leaks of biometric information. The team defends this practice, emphasizing that it retains only the proof of the iris scan and does not store the scan itself.

Worldcoin aims to address the pervasive issue of losses suffered by retailers, citing a CNBC report estimating annual losses of $100 billion due to problems like return fraud, bots, and coupon stacking.

With the World ID 2.0, the team asserts that these losses can be curtailed by offering a robust verification system without requiring users to divulge personal information.
