Professionals in the crypto and blockchain industry are under threat from hackers disguised as offering crypto-related careers over the LinkedIn social platform.
According to a report by the Finnish based cybersecurity company F-secure, they have linked the attacks to one of the most notorious groups of hacking in the world, Lazarus. Typically, they target organisations on an international scale for the simple reason of money.
Over time, the group has been linked to numerous large-scale attacks on many big institutions. Many including banks.
The company stated that unsuspecting professions received a fraudulent listing message relating to the blockchain which included a Word document including malicious code from the hackers.
Furthermore, the report said that malware would start working on the victim after the document was opened. The malware would take vital information from the victim’s computer or phone and this could include crypto wallets and funds.
The report states:
“Lazarus Group invested significant effort to evade the target organization’s defenses during the attack, such as by disabling anti-virus software, on the compromised hosts, and removing evidence of their malicious implants.”
It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
