  • After the huge BitMEX user data leak last week, the crypto platform’s Twitter account was allegedly hacked.
  • For some users, BitMEX withdrawals are currently unavailable.
  • While under the hacker’s control, the account tweeted a suspicious stating “take your BTC and run.”

For BitMEX, things just seem to be going from bad to worse. Thanks to as a mass leak of user emails, the platform has seemingly turned into a full-blown crisis, leaving for a lot of annoyed users.

The derivatives platform came under a whole lot of controversy last week following the leak to thousands of users’ email addresses. The compromise was revealed by hundreds of users who received an email from the platform and were clearly (and understandably) not happy.

Getting Hacked

It got pretty intense from here though as the platform began posting a range of strange messages, including one that warned users to “take your BTC and run.”

For most Twitter users, this was a clear sign of a compromise. However, one user supposedly said the Twitter “hack” was actually just a way of revenge from the disgruntled former BitMEX employee who was behind for the accidental email leak.

Withdrawals were soon disabled.

CIO of Altana Digital Currency Fund, Alistair Milne said at the time:

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out with BitMEX as this is a massive deal that won’t be forgotten for a long time.
