BTC Developer Offers a Hand to Binance, For a Price...

Udi Wertheimer, one of the most outspoken bitcoin developers of recent years has just pledged himself to advertise for the binance platform for the rest of the year, but only if the firm integrates some very specific features.

This all came from a twitter debate starting on the 2nd October when Wertheimer made an unexpected decision to influence the development of the exchange

At the helm of one of the biggest crypto platforms out there, Changpeng Zhao got involved after Wertheimer said he could potentially change his twitter profile picture to the logo of Binance until 2020. He said on Twitter:

“ok hear me out @cz_binance , if you add full segwit support (segwit deposits, and withdrawals to bech32) + allow generating new deposit addresses (to avoid address reuse), i will change my profile pic to @binance logo for the rest of 2019”

Wertheimer was referring to the fact that Binance is postponing support for Bitcoin addresses which meet the Segregated Witness (SegWit) standard.

Sometimes preferred by investors because it’s quick and cheap, SegWit has seen slow uptake by companies like crypto platforms.

Earlier in the year, CZ said the technology’s integration was a lower priority for developers. During an AMA session, he stated:

“SegWit is on the road map, but it's kind of a lower priority because Bitcoin transactions do work right now, especially with Lightning Network, which have taken the load of Bitcoin main network.”

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
