Bitcoin Payments Now Supported On Opera Web Browser 

The popular Opera web browser is a popular one for the CryptoDaily team and it’s about to get even better. 

The web browser has just recently added bitcoin e-commerce and TRON integration to its Android app according to a press release posted this week.

With this enhanced crypto functionality, Opera Android users will be able to make bitcoin payment directly from its built-in digital wallet and interact with decentralised apps (dApps) on the TRON blockchain. It could increase crypto visibility though amongst the browser’s supposed 300 million users.

Charles Hamel, Head of Crypto at Opera, told CoinDesk:

“Most people have heard of bitcoin and thus we saw it as important to support it and make this feature more familiar to a larger group of people.”

Out of all the top five web browsers available, including Chrome and Safari, Opera is the only one to have a digital wallet implementation. Now though, it is another tech move by one of the web’s oldest applications.

Hamel went onto say:

“The browser is the ideal candidate for integrating cryptocurrencies as it is the gateway to so many things in the user’s life. Content, shopping, financial transactions, social media — adding the ability to upload and download value for all of these use cases is very powerful. Opera is the only browser with this capability.”

Around two decades ago, Opera only launched as a research project but is growing in popularity every day. The Norway-based web surfer angled itself towards crypto last and began to see the potential in the emerging asset class by regularly expanding its digital wallet functionality to its mobile and desktop services.

“We believe that opening our browser to more blockchains, including Bitcoin, is the logical next step to making our solution more relevant to anyone who has a Bitcoin crypto wallet and would like to do things with their cryptocurrencies beyond just keeping them in an account,” said Hamel.
