Aviva Investors Tokenises £22B Sterling Liquidity Fund Share Class on XRP Ledger

Aviva Investors Tokenises £22B Sterling Liquidity Fund Share Class on XRP Ledger

Aviva Investors and Ripple on 26 October launched a tokenised share class of Aviva Investors’ Sterling (GBP) Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger. The fund has approximately £22 billion in assets under management, though the new blockchain-based share class operates as a representation of holdings rather than placing the underlying fund entirely on-chain, according to Aviva Investors.

£50 million commitment takes tokenised-class investment above £86 million

Aviva Investors invested £50 million in the newly launched tokenised share class. That takes its total investment across its two tokenised share classes above £86 million, Ripple said.

The commitment is separate from the liquidity fund’s approximately £22 billion in overall assets under management. The announcement concerns a share class of the existing Sterling Liquidity Fund, rather than a tokenisation of all assets held by the fund.

Digital twin keeps the Ireland-domiciled UCITS fund off-chain

Aviva Investors’ “digital twin” model represents holdings on-chain through a tokenised share class on the XRP Ledger, while retaining the existing off-chain Ireland-domiciled UCITS money-market-fund structure and regulated fund framework.

The description applies to the share class, not a full move of the underlying liquidity fund onto the network.

Wallet access alongside BNY Mellon custody

Eligible investors can access the tokenised share class through digital wallets, according to The Block. BNY Mellon holds the fund assets, while Komainu and Licuido support custody and tokenisation infrastructure.

The service-provider setup separates investor wallet access from custody of the fund assets, with the tokenisation layer operating alongside the established fund and custody arrangements.
