Miami's Bitcoin conference establishes the city as a top cryptocurrency hub

The Bitcoin 2022 conference is being held in Miami, welcoming thousands of cryptocurrency enthusiasts from around the world, as Miami seeks to cement itself as one of the top cryptocurrency hubs in the US.

Miami has attracted crypto supporters from all corners of the globe, with the Bitcoin 2022 conference providing a space for these enthusiasts and entrepreneurs to network, share ideas, and access industry panels and talks.

While Silicon Valley remains the global centre for technology and innovation, Miami and other spots in the US, such as Orlando, are attempting to rebrand themselves as the next Silicon Valley through hosting events and promoting their crypto-friendly cities.

The naming of the FTX Arena (previously American Airlines Arena), stamped the name of a cryptocurrency exchange across an iconic venue, cementing Miami as a serious contender for the title of US crypto hub.

The Bitcoin 2022 conference is being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, and features several high-profile speakers, including Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary,  author Jordan Peterson, human rights activist Yeonmi Park, and tech billionaire Peter Thiel.

Miami has attracted increasing numbers of crypto projects, with mayor Francis Suarez openly embracing cryptocurrency and fighting for crypto-friendly regulation. In December 2021, Mayor Suarez stated that he would take 100% of his paycheck in cryptocurrency, asking other city leaders in January to sign a crypto pact that would help foster innovation in the US.

Suarez commented on the Miami Bitcoin conference, noting:

“We are going to have 50,000 attendees, and it’s going to be an economic development boom for our city, creating thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in economic incentives for our city.”

A number of big announcements are expected at the conference, with Bloomberg reporting that at least 75 companies are expected to make announcements at the conference. Last year, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele revealed that the country would be making cryptocurrency legal tender, and he will also be attending this year's conference, sparking interest in whether the president will have another significant announcement to make.

The interest in this year's Bitcoin conference has sparked speculation that Bitcoin could have a price breakout, with analysts believing the recent rally could result in a bitcoin price breakout which would lead Bitcoin to resuming its uptrend.
