The Montreal Canadiens have become the latest team to dip their feet in NFTs, announcing the launch of their first-ever NFT tokens. The NFTs will be digital collectibles that will celebrate the Montreal Canadiens run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
The team will release the first packs of the NFTs on Thursday afternoon, at 1 pm ET, and then new packs will continue to be dropped on subsequent Thursdays, Saturdays, and Tuesdays throughout September.
The "Base" And "Rare" Categories
The NFT collection will be divided into two categories, a base category, and a rare category. The base category will be priced at $25 CDN, while the rare category will be priced at $50 CDN. Fans of the Montreal Canadiens can also buy the NFTs without any cryptocurrency; instead, they can also make a payment using standard payment methods such as using their credit card.
The NFT Collection
Each NFT fact will consist of four unique NFTs; three NFTs will feature team photography, artwork, and commemorative tickets from the Montreal Canadiens 2021 postseason. The fourth will be a digital game puck with the box score data from one of the team's 22 games in the playoffs. Collectors will be able to buy, sell, trade their NFTs in a digital marketplace built on the blockchain starting September.
President of Sports and Entertainment, Groupe CH, France Margaret Belanger commented,
"On the heels of an unforgettable season, we're thrilled to provide fans with a unique way to own a digital piece of history in a format that recalls traditional card collecting familiar to generations. In taking this pack model approach, we're hoping to make NFT ownership viable to as wide an audience as possible and allow collectors of all ages and means the chance to participate in this initiative."
Limited Number Of Packs
The total number of packs issued by the Montreal Canadiens will be limited, with only a few hundred to be released during a single drop. The Montreal Canadiens will be using a dedicated web platform, canadiens.dropshop.io, to list out the exact details about the number of pieces available during each drop. It will also be the exclusive home of the Montreal Canadien NFT collection. The website will contain information about the NFT collection and how users can register and purchase the NFT packs. It will also display the artwork featured on the NFTs in the collection.
Chicago Blackhawks Also Launching Their Own NFT Collection
The Montreal Canadiens are not the only team exploring NFTs, with the Chicago Blackhawks also announcing the release of their first official NFT collection. The collection consists of 12 hockey character cards and 2000 digital tickets inspired by 8-bit retro gaming graphics.
The collection was unveiled on BlackhawksNFT.com and can be purchased directly from sweet.io/Blackhawks. The NFTs are available in both auction and fixed-price auctions for both newer buyers and crypto enthusiasts.
The Character Cards And Digital Tickets
The Character cards consist of 12 hockey characters, each with a unique set of attributes, descriptions, and a unique name that have all been inspired by the Blackhawk's history, the city of Chicago, the United Center, and of course, Hockey. Six of the twelve characters wear the Blackhawks home jersey, while six wear the team's away jersey.
The digital tickets are collectible 8-bit tickets, with only 2000 of them available to fans for purchase. Four different types of ticket editions (500 each) will be sold at a price of $30 CDN on a first-come-first-serve basis. Fans that purchase all four tickets can unlock a bonus Golden Ticket.
