ASUS Break Into Bitcoin Mining With A Novel Idea

Bitcoin mining is somewhat of a dying industry. Now, of course, we all know that the current mining downtime is the result of many extraneous factors and that one day, when the price of Bitcoin rallies again, mining will pick up. It will become a profitable industry and all of this mining expertise we have built up over the years will not have gone to waste!

Or maybe I’m being optimistic?

Anyway, in recent news, computer hardware producers ASUS have stepped into the cryptosphere by discussing how gamers could make use of their powerful gaming rigs for the mining of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. According to reports, ASUS are now encouraging gamers to start using their machines to mine cryptocurrency when they are idle and not otherwise in use.

This comes through a partnership with blockchain firm Quantumcloud, who have developed a software for gamers to install that will allow them to utilise their idle computing power for cryptocurrency mining and will receive a payout via WeChat and PayPal for their efforts.

According to The Next Web:

“There is also no mention of how much gamers can earn – and whether ASUS or Qunatumcloud will keep any cut from their mining profits. A disclaimer in a press release shared with Hard Fork notes that ASUS and Quantumcloud do not guarantee that users of its software will make any earnings or profit, warning that users are responsible for considering their own usage costs.”

So, as it stands, everyone's a little unclear with regards to how this could work. Nobody really knows how much profit gamers will make from this and moreover, there’s no clear statement from ASUS that guarantees gamers can make any money off it, nor is there an indication to suggest that ASUS aren’t just using this as an opportunity to drive profits for themselves.

It’s a novel idea, though as it stands, it feels a little unthought out.

Either way, we believe that this is the essence for the future of Bitcoin mining. With so many idle machines lying round and not being used to their potential, it’s an easy way to ensure mining continues without having to rely on people to build mining specific computing rigs. Yes, this does mean gamers might end up paying higher energy bills but hey, won’t it all be worthwhile when the price of Bitcoin flies once again?
