Solana-based lending protocol Spout has raised $2 million in a strategic funding round
The project’s goal is to disrupt traditional margin lending by introducing 0% interest borrowing against tokenized U.S. equities
Spout’s funding round attracted prominent institutional backers such as Draper Dragon, Anchorage Digital, Flow Traders, and Solana Labs, alongside angel investors including former CFTC Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo and Solana co-founders.
Spout allows users to borrow USDC at a 50% loan-to-value ratio with 0% interest by using tokenized U.S. stocks as collateral. Unlike traditional brokerages charging double-digit annual margin rates, Spout generates lender yields through automated weekly covered call options strategies rather than borrower interest.
Spout co-founder and CEO Marc Ryan noted in an interview with Blockchain Reporter that borrowing against a financial portfolio should no longer be restricted to ultra-wealthy individuals with private bankers, explaining how decentralized infrastructure can safely democratize prime brokerage services.
J. Christopher Giancarlo, who serves as Spout’s Regulatory & Policy Advisor, echoed this sentiment when commenting on the platform:
"That is prime brokerage economics made available to individuals. It is why I have invested in the company and serve as a strategic advisor. Tokenizing a stock is only the first step. What gives it value is what you can do with it afterward."
Spout's 0% interest borrowing model challenges traditional brokerage margin rates by utilizing automated yield strategies, signaling a structural shift toward capital-efficient real-world asset utility in decentralized finance. If successful, this integration of tokenized U.S. equities on Solana could pressure legacy financial institutions to reform high-margin lending fees while driving broader on-chain adoption.
Outlets like Crypto.news and Coinpedia highlighted how the protocol bridges real-world assets with decentralized finance. Spout is currently live on the Solana Devnet and plans to use the new capital to expand its team ahead of its mainnet launch.
