Nvidia Options Price a 5.4% Earnings Move as AI Rally Faces a Test

Nvidia options are pricing a 5.4% move in either direction on Thursday, August 27, 2026, the day after the company’s earnings report. The implied move translates to about $280 billion in market capitalisation, according to Reuters via Investing.com.

The reading is lower than the move options traders priced before Nvidia’s May earnings and below the company’s recent realised post-results volatility. That makes the August 26 report a test of whether a relatively restrained options market has correctly judged the risks around AI demand, guidance and cloud-sector spending.

The 5.4% move versus recent pricing

Options markets currently imply a 5.4% move for Nvidia, versus 6.5% ahead of the May earnings report.

Over the last 12 quarters, Nvidia’s average post-earnings price swing was 7.4%, reported by ORATS. That is a realised historical reaction rather than a pre-results options expectation: the 5.4% and 6.5% figures are the latter, so the comparison places current pricing below both reference points without treating them as the same measure.

August 26 results in focus

Nvidia is scheduled to hold its second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings call on Wednesday, August 26, at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). The quarter ended July 26, 2026, according to Nvidia Investor Relations.

For the second quarter of fiscal 2027, Nvidia had forecast revenue of $91.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. Its outlook did not assume any Data Center compute revenue from China, the company said when it reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 results.

Investors regard Nvidia as a bellwether for the broader AI trade. Revenue guidance, chip demand, profit margins and continued AI-related capital spending by major cloud providers are among the variables in focus, Reuters reported.

AI infrastructure financing backdrop

The earnings scrutiny comes after Nvidia announced partnerships with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR to establish AI compute infrastructure-financing platforms. Nvidia said the partnerships are intended to mobilise over $500 billion of third-party capital for AI infrastructure buildout over time.

The announcement, made on August 10, extends the backdrop for investor attention on the durability of AI-related capital spending. The immediate market test remains the August 26 results, including how Nvidia addresses its $91.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue outlook and demand conditions across its data-centre business.
