IoTeX, a blockchain platform for the Internet of Things (IoT), has released information on the availability of Pebble Tracker, a multi-sensor IoT data oracle that uses a tamper-proof secure element (TEE) to convert real world phenomena into verifiable, blockchain-ready data. IoTeX has also recently announced real world data mining initiatives based on verifiable data from Pebble Tracker, including the first decentralized machine learning models in partnership with Scaleout.
Developed in partnership with Nordic Semiconductor, a fabless semiconductor company specializing in wireless technology for the IoT, the Pebble Tracker is currently on sale with pre-orders available on CrowdSupply. IoTeX’s platform is built on a modular architecture designed primarily for IoT use cases, enabling trusted data and trusted devices to connect seamlessly. The platform helps developers scale their workflow and refocus their efforts to build business logic, economics, and industry-specific components for applications and services released to the blockchain industry’s market.
As a decentralized asset tracking device, Pebble is equipped with built-in secure hardware and cellular connectivity. Developers can harness Pebble’s features to collect, sign, and transmit real-world data directly to the blockchain for smart contracts. Pebble uses Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF9160 SiP (System-in-Package) long-range wireless solution for global asset tracking, and utilizes the latest hardware from Bosch (BME680 Environmental Sensor), TDK, and PMT, among others. It has an integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem with support for bands from 700 MHz to 2.2 GHz, and a TD1030 GPS.
“If data is the new gold, then our smart devices are the goldmines. Today, individuals may think we own our data but in reality it is owned and controlled by corporations, Cloud providers, and telecoms. These intermediaries have fought tirelessly to retain custody of our data not because they want to protect it, but because they want to monetize it,” said Raullen Chai, Co-Founder and CEO of IoTeX.
This combination of blockchain-ready features and secure hardware integrated for Pebble allows data to become executable on smart contracts, and its tamper-proof software design ensures the provenance and authenticity of data, all verifiable on the blockchain without need of centralized intermediaries.
With these features, Pebble Tracker is set to disrupt the IoT industry by empowering users to own, control, and monetize their data, enabling them to own their data exclusively and verifiably contribute these to “decentralized data collectives,” effectively becoming shareholders and collaborators for decentralization initiatives.
In a blog post, IoTeX listed some of the ongoing initiatives from active data collectives to create an open world of bottoms-up digital assets, these include: community-trained AI/ML models with Scaleout, user-defined geospatial maps by Pébble-GO, and crowdsourced climate indices by Air-QualiTEE, an open-source project led by a team from University of Waterloo.
IoTeX has opened an invitation to everyone interested to be part of the world’s first ever community-owned data collectives through the aforementioned ongoing initiatives.
