Akoin announce Sergio Fernandez as Director of Akoin Board

Akoin, the digital asset platform developed by international and Grammy-nominated artist Akon, has appointed global influencer and visionary Sergio Fernandez de Cordova as the first director to the project’s board.

Sergio has a long track record of success, most recently being awarded the 2019 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which is given to American immigrants whose work exemplifies the American Dream.

Sergio joins the Akoin team as the project’s first appointed board member.

Prior to his 2019 Ellis Island medal, Sergio was honored in 2016, by the Humanitarian Innovation Forum at the United Nations (UN) with the Global Social Impact Award for his work.

Sergio, has over 20 years of advertising, media, telecom, government and regulatory experience. He has led a variety of private-public partnerships with leaders in cities across the United States as well as across major global cities.

He is an expert on the global development and policy work behind structuring Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) around smart infrastructure and policy framework with local, state and federal governments as well as intergovernmental and non-governmental agencies.

In addition, he has developed partnerships including the Latino Impact Summit, SDG Media Zone & SDG Media Summit, Blockchain for Impact; all in collaboration with various UN agencies.

Sergio has been celebrated locally and internationally for the work of his various businesses for over a decade. In 2012, Dell Inc. named Sergio one of its #Inspired 100 leading global influencers. In 2015 Meet LATAM recognized Sergio as Entrepreneurial Latin Global Leader & Influencer.

In 2016 the Humanitarian Innovation Forum honored Sergio at the UN with the Global Social Impact Award. In November, Crain’s honored Sergio as a Visionaries’ finalist to the Hispanic Executive and Entrepreneur Award and he was most recently named United Nations top 3 most influential people in the world, by the UN Social 500 list.

The Akoin platform will run on the Stellar blockchain network. This means users can transform currencies as they are sent, allowing a user to send one currency and the receiver to get a different currency in their wallet, all powered by the Stellar Anchor Network.
