Do you remember Minecraft? This is one of the biggest games of all time - and in all fairness it still is. With prominent YouTuber PewDiePie making videos on the game, Minecraft has seen a big revival of the past 12 months. It wasn’t just that though, new updates have brought a whole new perspective to the game and a whole new audience are now interested in building their own world in something that was not long forgotten.

So why am I telling you this? Well, bitcoin can now be earned by players in Minecraft thanks to the new SatoshiQuest server. Players on Minecraft will pay $1 for each new life with the proceeds going into a pool for the eventual winner. The users of the game will be able to connect their own unique in-game bitcoin wallet which will be displayed on the screen HUD. The end goal is to find the hidden bitcoin before anyone else.

When a player gets close to the treasure, their position is shown to all the players in the map. According to the person who created the server, it is going to give everyone a fair chance and make sure that no one cheats by camping on the loot spot.

All transactions of the leading cryptocurrency will be completed on-chain for now. The creator has expressed his willingness to see the server forked which would incorporate transactions for the lightning network.

When you look into the history books though, you can see that whenever bitcoin increases in popularity the on-chain fees rise significantly too. When the flagship currency surged to $14,000 just over six months ago, the transaction fees rose up to $6.50. In fact, when you look back to 2017, the fees for the currency topped out at $65 when it was priced at $20,000.

Keeping all this in mind it might be wise to take advantage of the server sooner rather than later…
