One Reddit user, under the name /u/moneromanz, reported $7k worth of Monero’s flagship token missing from their wallet after the malicious code was downloaded.
He said:
“I can confirm that the malicious binary is stealing coins. Roughly 9 hours after I ran the binary a single transaction drained my wallet of all $7000. I downloaded the build yesterday around 6pm Pacific time.”
The Reddit user warned of the potential that the malicious code has so it could further other fraudulent actions which would have an impact on several other files on a user’s machine.
On top of this, they also published a copy of the malware for anyone to download and study. Obviously, those who are interested in the code shouldn’t download anything of the sort unless they are using a secure test computer which doesn’t have any access to cryptocurrency wallets.
