Help This Bitcoin Baby Go To College

The Times is one of the biggest newspapers in the United Kingdom. Recently, in the ‘Births, Marriages and Death’ section of the paper, there was an announcement from a couple who had given birth to a little girl called Izabella. However, there was something different about the announcement of Izabellas birth to the other thousand or so births that The Times reports every year as Izabella’s parents were asking for Bitcoin donation for the baby’s college fund.

Wioletta and Peter’s little bundle of joy have given them the incentive to ask the world for Bitcoin so they will be able to afford Izabellas college fund. Higher education is usually an expensive feat and in the UK that is no exception as university/college can cost around £50,000 for a three-year bachelor’s degree in the UK. Now if you take into consideration the relatively low price of Bitcoin at the moment, this could be the perfect time to start asking people for donations.

Some of the interesting things regarding the announcement is that it has their Bitcoin vanity address which is 1ZAB5XeKMdvax2S8eZT7GQ6Nj4xjbsw1Y. At the time of writing, the address has had over 200 transactions which has summed up to 1.5 Bitcoin. This is worth about $3,900 at the time of writing so there is a while to go yet before that $50,000 mark is reached.

On top of this, The Times newspaper doesn’t allow images to be used in announcements for births otherwise it would be too expensive to have included one so that would explain Izabella’s parents referred to the 33 character address instead of a QR code, which would have made life easier for those that are kind enough to donate to fund.

Reddit was less than kind though to the parents claiming that it is a “disguised way to beg…” Another Reddit user said "Also shame on the baby's parents for linking their baby's ID with her bitcoin address in public. Hope by the time she grows up, various privacy tools like coinjoin will be the default in wallets." Whereas others decided to congratulate them and say that they were smart to ask for Bitcoin to help the baby’s college fund.
