Radix is a foundational layer 1 platform for smart contracts that approaches the challenge of decentralizing the $400 trillion global financial market by starting with that end goal and working backward.
After over nine years of extensive research, experimentation, and development, Radix is ready to revolutionize the DeFi landscape with its suite of innovative technologies. These include Scrypto, an asset-focused programming language; the Radix Engine, the first ever programmable "DeFi Engine" worldwide; and Cerberus, a consensus method that offers atomic composability with scalable linear growth.
What Is e-Radix (EXRD)?
The e-RADIX token, symbolized as eXRD, acts as a wrapped version of XRD on the Ethereum blockchain.
Serving as a permanent connection between Radix and Ethereum, eXRD can be swapped one-to-one with XRD through Instabridge or various exchanges.
Introduced in November 2020, eXRD is an ERC20 token operating on the Ethereum network, under the contract address: 0x6468e79A80C0eaB0F9A2B574c8d5bC374Af59414.
The token is designed to be perpetual, ensuring there will never be a deadline for exchanging eXRD and XRD.
Given that eXRD and XRD can be traded equally, arbitrage traders are likely to maintain their prices in alignment.
Who Are the Founders of Radix?
Dan Hughes from the UK first encountered Bitcoin in 2012. With his expertise in telecom technology development, he foresaw the massive potential of blockchain for global finance and beyond. After a year of studying Bitcoin, he launched eMunie (eventually known as Radix) on Bitcointalk in May 2013.
Spanning the next five years, Dan concentrated on addressing the major issue of scalability. He designed and evaluated several consensus frameworks, such as Blocktrees, Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), Channelled Asynchronous State Trees (CAST), Tempo, and Cerberus.
In 2017, Piers Ridyard came on board as CEO, the project was rebranded to Radix, and it received investment from Taavet Hinrikus, the co-founder of TransferWise, as well as LocalGlobe, a prominent European venture capital firm.
The introduction of Cerberus in 2020 marked the creation of the world's first cross-shard atomic consensus protocol, capable of providing limitless linear scalability.
The year 2020 also witnessed the founding of Radix Tokens (Jersey) Limited, a Jersey (Channel Islands) entity responsible for issuing XRD and managing the Radix Foundation's treasury. Andrew Jarrett serves as the CEO of RTJL.
In July 2021, the inaugural version of the Radix Public Network, termed "Olympia," was launched.
The innovative DeFi programming language, Scrypto, became available in early access in December 2021.
The "Babylon" release from Radix, aimed at deploying production smart contracts written in Scrypto on the mainnet, is set to be launched in the first half of 2023.
What Makes Radix Unique?
Radix stands out at every level of its tech stack by offering:
Scrypto, a distinctive asset-oriented programming language, designed to significantly enhance the developer experience in Web3 and DeFi by treating assets (tokens) as an inherent part of the language.
The Radix Engine, a unique virtual machine dubbed the world's first "DeFi Engine," which aims to revolutionize DeFi development just as game engines have transformed game creation.
Cerberus, a distinct consensus algorithm that "weaves" consensus across an expansive "shardspace." Its every transaction is cross-shard and atomic, giving Cerberus its exceptional blend of atomic composability and linear scalability.
