What exactly is the Open Custody Protocol, previously known as QRDO?
The Open Custody Protocol, or OCP, brings forward a groundbreaking relayer system that effortlessly links applications with a flexible, permissionless custody protocol. This system functions like a mesh network, allowing end-users to utilize various key management protocols, a concept we refer to as "Keychain Aggregation." By developing a protocol that addresses Keychain Aggregation, we make it easier for developers to create applications by removing complicated risks and simplifying processes. This also unifies and brings together the economic aspects tied to having several bilateral commercial partnerships.
With OCP, we've introduced a new approach to custody that emphasizes (1) modularity in connecting key management solutions and (2) decentralization in user access to key generation and transaction signing services. We're thrilled to lead this initiative, especially as current security and custody solutions are finding it challenging to cope with the rapid expansion of chains. Furthermore, with the forthcoming tokenization of Real World Assets (RWAs), which could inject trillions of dollars into the blockchain ecosystem, the need for flexible and modular solutions is increasingly evident.
