Google Chrome extensions for the cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturer and custody provider, Ledger have been used by many fraudulent actors in an attempt to fool those out of their money.

Over the weekend on the 28th of March, a post was released by one user who was looking to warn others that he had just lost just shy of 15,000 XRP tokens to a fake ledger wallet extension on the Google Chrome store.

According to the user, the lost funds consist of a chunk of savings that she and her husband had been working on since 2017. The wallet that her XRP was sent to forwarded her funds to a second wallet that currently holds around 15 million in the ripple token.

The user claims that she is actually a confirmed victim of coronavirus. She also added that her husband works in an essential industry in the United Kingdom and she is self-isolating in a single room of her house.

With the many difficulties they have to experience with her being isolated in one single room, the user sought to liquidate some of her family’s holdings in cryptocurrency. She further said:

“I begin the day by selling a load of our other cryptocurrency for bitcoin, sold some to help us and I then consolidate the remaining into xrp. I then load up our Ledger. It’s been a while since I last accessed our Ledger (2018), and have since changed my computer. I recalled the Ledger having a Chrome extension and this is when the scam starts.”

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. For more news on this, the XRP Price and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
