Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has just announced its first Asian partnership with Lolli, an affiliate retail startup that gives shoppers online bitcoin rather than regular cash-back rewards.

The in-browser app of Lolli provides users with the ability to shop through merchants’ websites as they normally would, but instead of getting cash back perks, bitcoin rewards are on the table to be delivered to the in-browser wallet.

Making partners

Aubrey Strobel, Lolli’s head of communications, told CoinDesk that the benefits of Lolli will only be available for purchases made in the United States. This new option could add further benefits for Chinese-Americans, foreign students or travellers if they decide to get involved in online holiday sales. However, the announcement states that citizens in China won’t be able to participate.

The announcement of this partnership yesterday on November 11th.

“Its products would be shipped from China to U.S. users,” Strobel said.

Instead of Black Friday, China celebrates Singles day (or Guanggun Jie). this is a shopping holiday popular among young Chinese people that celebrate their pride in being single. Alibaba Group’s online Singles Day sales have allegedly skyrocketed to more than $23 billion so far in this year alone.

Milestones

Alex Adelman, the CEO of Lolli classed that this partnership as a big move for the startup and plans to reach out globally next year.

“This partnership is a great first step to connect the two largest economies, China and the US, through bitcoin and commerce. The opportunity is available for US users only for now but we plan to expand internationally soon, letting everyone in the world easily earn and own bitcoin.”

It will be interesting to see how this partnership plays out between the two firms. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
