Facebook-coin vs Twitter-coin

Facebook-coin vs Twitter-coin

In the battle between the social media giants, which corporation will reign top when it comes to cryptocurrency? We know that Facebook are already developing their own cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies, Twitter however we know less about so, which giant will hit the markets first?

Facebook-coin isn’t set to be a conventional cryptocurrency, rather Facebook have adopted a blockchain research team that have been working on the development of blockchain based technologies for Facebook, think more data verification and data protection rather than a system used to facilitate cryptocurrency payments. Rumour does have it however that Facebook are creating a token, one that will be used across their other platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp. Generally though, this is not a cryptocurrency that people will be able to invest in.

Now Twitter on the other hand have been far less vocal about their efforts when it comes to cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. They were quick to jump on the cryptocurrency advertising ban inspired by Facebook last year but since then Twitter haven’t exactly been in the news for their crypto efforts. To be honest, Twitter tends to be less in the eye of the media anyway since their platform is a little simple for that. With that in mind though, we all know that Twitter could benefit from a cryptocurrency incentive. Are Twitter creating a cryptocurrency? Probably not, but we can bet they are at least considering it given that their rivals Facebook are already making motions.

In the race, Facebook is most likely to come out on top, Facebook have a headstart and a much bigger network through which their coin can exist. Having said that though, who really knows? Twitter have a lot of money and they have the ability to mobilise new projects quickly. If they are already doing their research, they could turn around a working cryptocurrency project in a matter of months, it wouldn’t be a huge task for them.

Social media is a great platform for crypto to project itself, with so many users and accessibility across many devices and media, social networks will eventually become engulfed in the crypto and blockchain industry too. How crypto will hit our networks is something we can’t be sure of yet, but, soon enough I’m pretty sure we’ll find out.
