BitTorrent: File sharing Soon To Be TRON-Powered

The decentralised file sharing system, BitTorrent has been in the news quite a lot recently and they have spoken about the release dates for a new sharing system as well as a crypto token set to be released during the middle of this year.

BitTorrent speed is the new software which will allow users to host and share media files in exchange for the new TRON-based cryptocurrency of the BitTorrent network known as BTT tokens. If you take into account the thirty million daily users on the file-sharing network, BitTorrent Speed will be most likely become the most used dApp on any blockchain by far.

According to the announcement at the niTRON conference in San Francisco last week, you will be able to use the system in summer. Justin Sun became CEO of BitTorrent after the acquisition by the TRON Foundation who said:

“With BitTorrent Speed, we aim to strengthen the BitTorrent protocol and then deliver more features that inspire innovation across industries.” Sun continues saying, “more than 100 million users soon will have the opportunity to be part of a boundary-free internet that supports personal privacy and connection around the world.”

Torrenting is a popular act in today’s internet and it has been dubbed as a model of successful decentralisation. Satoshi Nakamoto himself/herself (itself?) compared the act to the leading cryptocurrency when explaining what the new creation, Bitcoin, actually is. The content sharing network has a distributed nature which makes it very hard to block or remove files.

Of course, the system wasn’t 100 percent and ‘seeders’ didn’t have a lot of reason to host files aside from their own moral standpoint. Those that download the files and don’t share them are known as Leechers who don’t have material incentives to do otherwise.

With the uTorrent Classic app getting new updates, this could all change according to BitTorrent. As reported by CryptoBriefing, “instead of hosting files for free, seeders will be compensated in BitTorrent tokens, thereby providing monetary incentives for long-term sharing. This, in turn, is expected to improve download speeds and availability.”

The head of BitTorrent Speed development, Justin Knoll said that “when users gain access to BitTorrent Speed, they will be blown away by the improvements we’ve made to the client they know and love today.”
