The Man, The Myth, The Litecoin Creator

Charlie Lee is known by many as the creator of Litecoin and within the cryptocurrency space, Lee is somewhat of a celebrity. Litecoin was one of the original Bitcoin derivative cryptocurrencies which came just two years after Bitcoin came out. Despite this year's changes in price, Litecoin is still one of the top cryptocurrencies in the space in both price and market cap. Even though it was one of the initial cryptos, Litecoin doesn’t have the same level of popularity like Bitcoin or Ethereum have but the token is a fan favourite nevertheless.

MIT

Lee seemed to follow in his father's footsteps as he attended MIT and studied computer science in which he undertook a back-to-back Bachelor’s and Master’s degree program. At the turn of the century, Lee graduated with his masters in computer science.

It was clear that Lee always had an interest in computer technology and for more than a decade after he graduated from MIT, the to-be Litecoin creator worked for several tech firms including the search engine giant Google.

Google

Around four years before Litecoin was created, Lee was working Google in September of 2007 as a lowly software engineer. Lee worked on a number of projects for the search engine company including YouTube Mobile, PlayGames and Chrome OS.

Lee was with Google for five years but it seemed that half a decade with the company was enough for as he moved on to greener pastures.

Bitcoin

Lee has admitted on several occasions that he only came across Bitcoin in 2011 when he was still working at Google. Slowly but surely, Lee got into mining Bitcoin and then he eventually reached out to one of the developers of the core Bitcoin blockchain client software, Mike Hearn.

Fast forward a bit and Lee had gained so much interest in crypto that he decided that he wanted to create his known as Litecoin.

Litecoin

Lee released Litecoin to the world after copying the core Bitcoin source code and making a number of changes to suit him where appropriate. These changes included the hashing protocol, average block transaction time, supply cap and the GUI.

In 2013, Lee had been working on Litecoin for two years. He is currently the managing director of the Litecoin Foundation in which he overlooks the development of the currency.
