New Update For Opera Includes Built-In Ethereum Wallet

The popular web browser, Opera has recently announced the release of its new blockchain-ready browser with a built-in Ethereum wallet on the Android platform. The updated version of the app comes with Web 3 support according to the statement released earlier today. Opera has said that the new app looks to provide Android users with an opportunity to experience Web 3 easily as well as a means of accelerating the transition of digital currencies from speculative investments to the everyday use in transactions.

The firm believes that the platform now provides a place where users will be able to use cryptocurrencies online with ease thanks to the launch of the new updated Android app. This is a big improvement since, in the past, this was no easy task. With the choice of going in the Ethereum direction is primarily down to its massive community of dApp developers. The web browser believes that by offering support to the Ethereum Web 3 API, interactions with decentralised applications will become easier for users. On top of this, the company revealed that they have got plans to extend the wallet to support further cryptocurrencies and networks in the future.

In regards to the new release, Joe Lubin, founder of ConsenSys and co-founder of Ethereum along with Vitalik Buterin stated:

“It’s a significant step for one of the world’s leading browsers to add an Ethereum-based crypto wallet and dApp explorer and speaks to Opera’s innovative roots and commitment to embracing next-generation technology. We see this as an important moment in improving Dapp accessibility, opening Web3 to mainstream audiences, and encouraging developers to build on Ethereum.”

Web 3, the upcoming new generation web technology, is an umbrella term for other emerging technologies. Together, cryptocurrency and blockchain bring in more capabilities of the web from its current use to vastly more significant applications than at any point.

As reported by CCN, on similar lines to Web 3, “the crypto wallet browser will demonstrate an ability to renew and extend its role as an information accessing tool, and to manage users’ online transactions and digital identities in a way that enhances security and gives them more control.”
