âI made 100 racks off of BitcoinâAnother reference for Bitcoin entering the pop culture world. Soulja Boyâs latest album, Young Drako, which dropped on 4th October has 14 fresh tracks from the rapper including one titled, âBitcoinâ. In the tune, Soulja Boy - real name, DeAndre Cortez Way - brags about how much he has made form the cryptocurrency. The song opens with the chorus which asserts that Soulja Boy has made 100 racks of Bitcoin. For those of you who donât know, a rack is equal to $1,000 which means that Soulja Boy is claiming to have realised a return of $100,000 on his investments in digital currency. We could look into his lyrics more but something tells me it would be taking his words just a bit to literally. Although, Soulja Boy does imply in the song that he transfers digital currencies through Paypal (âsend it through the Paypalâ) on a regular basis although Paypal hasnât been supported for cryptocurrencies at the current time of writing. Then again, as we might be taking his lines a bit to literally. This isnât the first time that Bitcoin has been mentioned in pop culture songs by famous artists. One of the most famous rappers in the world, Eminem mentions Bitcoin on a track from his latest album Kamikaze. The song, Not Alike features another rapper, Royce Da 5â9 and the lines are talking about how entertainers and public figures who have all of a sudden got involved with cryptocurrency. The lyric in the song goes:
âRemember everybody used to bite nickel, now everybody doing bitcoin.âAkon has even got involved in the cryptocurrency world with his announcement that he is planning to release his own coin, Akoin in support for his Lighting Africa project. This shows that cryptocurrency - and Bitcoin specifically - has made waves throughout the world that it has inspired several artists to write about the currency in their music. What are your thoughts? What do you think about Bitcoin and crypto being involved in popular music from artists such as Eminem and Soulja Boy? Could this be a sign that cryptocurrency could be entering the mainstream soon? Let us know what you think down in the comments! References: Bitcoin.com
